I’m Jordan Thompson, a Cloud & Data Engineer based on the Gold Coast, Queensland. I work across the Microsoft ecosystem — data platforms, modern workplace administration, and automation — and this site is where I write up the problems I’ve solved and the things I’m learning along the way.
What I do
My background runs from helpdesk and MSP work through systems and cloud administration into where I am now.
Recent work includes:
- National franchise migration — primary engineer for the end-to-end technical delivery of a multi-site franchise migration onto a 6,000+ user Microsoft 365 tenant, covering identity, data migration (SharePoint, OneDrive, Exchange), device provisioning at scale with Autopilot and Intune, telephony, and networking.
- Power BI & MS Fabric consulting — designing and building enterprise reporting platforms and data pipelines, including a modular data mart supporting production reports across finance, compliance, safety, and project management.
- Modern workplace administration — several years administering M365 environments end-to-end: Entra ID, Intune, Exchange, Conditional Access, and Defender XDR, with security work aligned to the Essential Eight framework. The thread through all of it is automation. I script to fix issues — PowerShell, Power Automate, and the Graph API do a lot of the heavy lifting in my work, whether that’s bulk user provisioning during a migration or eliminating a manual process that shouldn’t exist.
Background
I hold a Bachelor of Information Technology from Griffith University, majoring in Networks and Cybersecurity, along with CompTIA Security+ and Microsoft PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst) certifications.
Off the clock
I like playing guitar, board games, and I run a Linux home server that self-hosts my media stack because I am sick of paying for all of these stupid streaming services. This site is part of that same habit: built with Astro, deployed on Cloudflare Pages, and maintained by me. I’m also interested in anything around AI, VR and tech in general. Been messing with computers since my first PC when I was 8 modding my minecraft to add cars, and will probably keep doing it until I am 100 (god willing).
